Year 5 enjoyed a trip to the Chambers of Commerce and learnt about democracy and the power that comes from knowing about and investing in your local area.

We experienced what it was like to sit in the Chambers and learnt about the different roles the councillors have. Barking and Dagenham has a deep history that we should be proud of. The Chambers of Commerce is diverse and a pioneer for equality.

After questioning we discovered some of the projects that the council members are working on, these projects take a lot of planning and can last for a number of years. The councillors play an important role in our community and have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders.

We were privileged to speak to the leader of the council Darren Rodwell whose passionate and informative speech provoked lots of interesting conversations back in the class room.
